Chow Chow

The Chow Chow is a dignified, faithful, and independent breed, with a serious attitude and a somewhat protective streak, which makes him an effective watchdog. These dogs are alert and intelligent, and it can be difficult to get some Chow Chows to do anything that they do not want to do, which makes them more suited to those with more experience with dog ownership and training. This breed does have territorial instincts, and needs to be socialized early on in order to ensure that he has an even temperament and stable personality.
The Chow Chow will get on well with children when raised with them, and with older, more considerate children, but needs to be supervised around animals as he may be aggressive towards dogs and cats. He tends to be reserved and wary around strangers, perhaps because of his protective streak. The Chow Chow is a dog that will often keep himself to himself unless provokes, but do bear in mind that these dogs do have predatory instincts and can therefore be dangerous around smaller dogs and cats. Although training can be difficult because of the nature of the breed, housebreaking of the Chow Chow is normally quite easy.

Alaskan Malamute

The American Kennel Club (AKC) breed standard calls for a natural range of size, with a desired freighting weight of 75 to 85 pounds (34–39 kg) and a height of 23 to 26 inches (58–64 cm). Some Malamutes have been known to reach 32 inches (810 mm), and to weigh more than 160 lb (73 kg). Heavier individuals (90lbs) and dogs smaller than 75 pounds are common. There is often a marked size difference between males and females. Weights upwards of 95 pounds are occasionally seen, but this is uncommon and such dogs are produced primarily by breeders who market a 'large Malamute.' These large sizes are not in accordance with the breed's history or show standards.
These large dogs get much attention, but in fact the females on the small end of the scale are of at least equal interest. Some weigh in the low forties, and this makes them attractive to a wider range of potential owners. These smaller dogs also tend to live longer, and an age of 18 may even be possible with proper diet and care.

Bloodhound dogs

Bloodhounds are large powerful dogs that appear much tougher than they actually are. Their loose skin looks like it is oversized for their bodies. They have long muzzles and drooping ears and rather sorrowful looking expressions. For their size, Bloodhounds have very powerful shoulders and backs and make good work dogs. Their coats are dense and short and vary in color. Some of the colors that can be found include solid red, tawny, tan with black, and tan with liver. Sometimes, Male dogs are generally 25-27 inches (63-69 cm) tall and weigh 90-110 pounds (41-50 kg). Female dogs are generally 23-25 inches (58-63 cm) tall and weigh 80-100 pounds (36-45 kg). The life expectancy of these dogs is about 10-12 years.

Shy, gentle, loyal, affectionate, and sensitive are all terms that can be used to describe the temperament of Bloodhounds. They are very devoted and loving toward their owners and get along well with other people and dogs as well. Bloodhounds are particularly gentle and lovable around children and make great family pets and companions. Their good nature will allow them to be patient with children and they rarely show any vicious tendencies. These dogs love attention but care should be taken that children do not injure these dogs or agitate them by playing too rough or for too long of a time period. Because Bloodhounds tend to be timid and reserved they do not make good watchdogs and at times their mournful howls may irritate the neighbors.

Portuguese Water Dog - (Obama’s pet Dog)

The Portuguese Water Dog, colloquially known as a Portie or PWD, is a working or utility dog that does best when he has a job to do. Portuguese Water Dogs once existed all along Portugal's coast, where they were taught to herd fish into fishermen's nets, to retrieve lost tackle or broken nets, and to act as couriers from ship to ship, or ship to shore. Portuguese Water Dogs rode in bobbing fishing trawlers as they worked their way from the cold Atlantic waters of Portugal to the frigid fishing waters off the coast of Iceland where the fleets caught cod to bring home.
The closest relatives of the PWD are widely thought to be the Barbet and Standard Poodle. Like Poodles and several other water dog breeds, PWDs are highly intelligent, can have curly coats, have webbed toes for swimming, and do not shed. However, Portuguese Water Dogs are more robustly built, with stout legs, and can have a wavy coat instead of tightly curled. Also, fanciers generally do not dock their tails, whereas Poodle tails are customarily docked. Portuguese Water Dog eyes are consistently brown, and their coats can be black, brown, black and white or brown and white.
Many brown dogs fade in shade as they age. There are very rare instances of white dogs without brown or black.Male Portuguese Water Dogs usually grow to be about 20 to 23 inches (51 cm to 58 cm) tall, and they weigh between 40 and 60 pounds (18 kg to 27 kg), while the females usually grow to be about 17 to 21 inches (43 cm to 53 cm) tall, and they weigh between 35 and 50 pounds.

English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel represents perhaps the greatest divergence between working and show lines of any breed of dog. A field-bred dog and a show-bred dog appear to be different breeds, but are registered together. In fact, the gene pools are almost completely segregated and have been for at least 70 years. A field bred dog would not be even remotely competitive in a modern dog show while a show dog would be unlikely to have the speed or stamina to succeed in a field trial.

Field-bred dogs tend to have shorter, coarser coats than the show-bred dogs. Their ears are less pendulous. Field-bred dogs are wiry and have more of a feral look than those bred for showing. The tail of the field bred dog is only docked by a few inches in comparison to the show dog to provide a "flag" for the hunter. Docking also prevents laceration of the tail during hunting. Field-bred dogs are generally selected for nose, hunting ability, and response to training rather than appearance.

Dalmatians

This popular breed of dog is a well-muscled, mid-sized, elegant dog with excellent endurance. The Dalmatian is slightly longer than tall when bred under the European (FCI) Standard. The American Kennel Club standard states that the dog should be more square, as long as it is tall at the withers. Shoulder should be well laid back with the elbow falling directly under the tip of the shoulder blade. Rear angulation should match the front with the stifle "well" bent indicating good angulation in the rear. The feet are round and compact with well-arched toes. The nails are either white and/or the same color as the spots. The ears are thin, tapering toward the tip, set fairly high and carried close to the head.
The ideal Dalmatian should stand between 54 and 61.5 cm (20 and 24 inches) at the withers and weigh from 23 to 35 kg fully grown. Breed standards for showing sometimes call for more specific sizes; the UK standard for instance, calls for a height between 22 and 24 inches (56-61 cm). Males are generally slightly larger than females. The female Dalmatian's gestation is about 2 months (60-64 days).

Belgian Shepherd Dog

Belgian Shepherd Dog (also known as the Belgian Sheepdog or Chien de Berger Belge) can refer to any of four varieties of dog: the Groenendael, the Laekenois, the Tervuren, or the Malinois. In Belgium (the country of origin) they are considered to be one breed, hair colour and structure divides them into four varieties. In some non FCI countries and other regions, they are considered separate breeds. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes only the Groenendael under the name "Belgian Sheepdog", but also recognizes the Tervuren (with the alternative spelling "Tervueren") and the Malinois as individual breeds. The Laekenois can be registered as part of the AKC foundation stock service and should eventually be recognised fully by the AKC.

Boxer

The Boxer is a medium-sized, squarely built canine of good substance with a short back, strong limbs, and short, tight-fitting coat. Boxers should have a broad, blunt muzzle and an expression of alertness. Their faces resemble that of a Bulldog, and their tails are usually docked for show. Ears are sometimes cropped for show as well, but they naturally have drop ears. Boxers should have a fenced yard to roam in, but will do well in a city environment if walked daily.

Bullmastiff

The Bullmastiff shows great strength, endurance and alertness. They are a natural guardian of the home and will not back down from a fight. To strangers they are rather standoffish, but they are loving toward their owner. Bullmastiffs are normally very gentle, cheerful and calm. They make a devoted, gentle companion. They are also known as the "gamekeeper's dog" because they were bred to accompany gamekeepers for the ability to track and overpower a poacher.

Collie

A collie is a distinctive type of herding dog, ultimately originating in Britain, especially in the upland areas of the north and west. The collie type has spread through many parts of the world (especially Australia and North America) and has diversified into many landraces and breeds. Some of these have remained working dogs, used for herding cattle, sheep and other livestock, while others are kept as pets, show dogs or for dog sports, in which they display great agility, stamina and trainability.
